First Friday edition of Zero Blog Thirty. We start the episode with a little history lesson on Iwo Jima and why the actions there are significant to Marines. The picture above is from the memorial on Iwo Jima in 1945. The visual representation of what 6,821 deaths looks like is jarring. Hearing the stories from heroes of the past is one of the aspects that Connor and I missed the most about life on active duty. We list a few other things that we miss as well.

Rear Admiral of Spittin Chicklets drops by for Zero Blog Theatre. RA is a big movie guy so he had lots to say about Bill Murray and John Candy. RA also tells us about how he wanted to follow in his pops’ footsteps and become a firefighter in the Air Force.

We close the episode with an interview that I did with my mom. Throughout our time making Zero Blog Thirty, we’ve had people ask about the family aspect of deployments and military life. My mom joined us to walk us through her emotions from when I dropped out of college to enlist to the point of my return from combat.
