We Will Probably Never See a Situation Similar to Chris Beard’s Return to Texas Tech Ever Again

I realize that a lot of sports fans don't fully lock in to college basketball until after the Super Bowl - which is fine. And if you're unaware of the storyline that went down in Lubbock, Texas this week, here is a one sentence Sparknotes version: Chris Beard, who led Texas Tech to the 2019 National Championship Game, left for the Texas Head Coaching job last year and made his highly anticipated return to Lubbock on Tuesday night to face his former team.

If I told you that situation without any details, you're probably thinking, "Man, he must have gotten some boos. Maybe some very loud boos." Well, I'm here to tell you that whatever picture you have in your mind of what went down, you are underestimating it. Check out the scenes from Lubbock the day BEFORE the game (Monday)...

Hate. True, true hate. As long as you don't cross the line, it's good for college basketball. And keep in mind that this is is all with 24 hours to go before tipoff! Fast forward to Tuesday, and the Texas Tech students were ready for WAR!

And once a sold out United Supermarkers Arena got into their seats, there was only one thing left to do… greet Chris Beard when he appeared out of the tunnel.

The game itself was a blowout. No team was going into Lubbock and winning that night. Nobody. And the unique situation of this return is something that I don't think we will see again. A coach goes from one in-state rival to another, both in the same conference. Could you imagine Coach K going to North Carolina? Bob Knight going from Indiana to Purdue? While these two programs in Texas don't have the same amount of history as those aforementioned teams, it's still an interesting nugget to think about.

We broke down the entirety of Chris Beard's return to Lubbock on today's episode of the Barstool Bench Mob. Take a listen below:
