On today's Pardon My Take... COACH O! Ed Orgeron joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter on today's show to discuss what he has been up to since his time at LSU came to an end, how proud he is of Joe Burrow's progress in the NFL, how special winning the National Championship was, and much more. The guys also got into it regarding what the future may hold in terms of a potential return to coaching. Does Coach O want to make another run at the profession or is he going to continue enjoying the time off? He explained where his head is at regarding his future on the sidelines...
Mr. Cat: So let me throw this idea out there, because I think I'm getting the vibe that you are enjoying your time, but you're not going to say no to like coaching, you know, again, you'll be back out there at some point. Have you thought about being just an interim head coach for hire because you're the greatest interim head coach of all time? When you took over for USC, that was my initial love for you, was when you took over for USC in what is was, 2013? And you guys went on a tear against the spread and straight up. And then the same thing happened when you took over at LSU, there's something about you tht you can galvanize a locker room. So have you thought about that, "Hey, you're going to fire your coach? Bring in Coach O, pay him like $5 million, he'll finish out the season, probably win some games you're not supposed to win.
Coach: Hey, that's a good idea, man. Hey, I'm ready. I didn't think of it like that. I'm one phone call away. I'm ready, I'm rested. I've been off for what, six weeks now? Yeah, I've got the itch, I do think I'm going to coach again, but it's got to be the right thing. I'm going to spend some time, I'm going to do the things that I need to do, but if it's the right thing, I'm getting back in it.
Mr. Commenter: Are we limiting ourselves to college, or are we thinking like, if the right pro team called in the right situation, you do that?
Coach O: Yeah, all options are open, are doors are open. You know, I'm going to be 61 this summer, I'm healthy, I got a lot left in the tank, man, whatever it may be, whatever is going to happen is going to be for the right reason, I do believe that.
Well, there you have it, folks. Ed Orgeron is VERY much interested in making a return to coaching football. He also gave Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter one of the biggest compliments they have ever received on the show, telling the duo, "You're great for football." Love it. Absolutely love it.
