Julian Edelman Reveals What Bill Belichick Told Him After No. 11 Said He Was the Newest Member of the Media

On today's Pardon My Take... JULIAN EDELMAN! The recurring guest of the show joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter today in a little bit of a different setting. As opposed to a standard interview, No. 11 watched last night's Buccaneers vs. Eagles game with the fellas and hopped on the pod for the opening segment to talk some ball. It was awesome hearing Edelman break everything down, especially given his relationship with Tom Brady.

After the game breakdown, the guys asked Edelman for an update on his bond with Patriots HC Bill Belichick. Edelman was saying that he saw him on the field a few weeks ago, and when he told Coach Belichick that he was now a member of the media, he gave an interesting response. Here is the full story:

Mr. Cat: Do you have any communication with Bill Belichick since you retired? I feel like he's the type of guy who warms up to you immediately when you're no longer his responsibility.

Julian Edelman: No, well I did have a couple things on the show, Inside the NFL, where I was kind of mocking him, I did a voice, a couple impressions. So when I went back, I went back there for a game, I saw him, and I'm like, "Hey, Coach," and I didn't know how to react, because he said something in the media. Greg Hill called him out and was like, "Hey, did you hear about Edelman impersonating you?" He gave him one of his snarks. And so, I'm kind of sweating, I'm on the sideline before the game, and Coach comes up and I'm like, "Hey Coach, you know I'm kind of just messing around." He goes, "Ahh, yeah, you're alright." I'm like, "We're good! We're gold." I gotta see where the line's at, and I guess I haven't seen that line yet.

Julian Edelman: But it was so crazy, so I retired this offseason, and I haven't seen him. And I end up going to some little shindig and he was there. And it's been publicized that I was doing Inside the NFL for like five months. And so, he looks at me and goes, "What are you up to now?" I'm like, "I'm doing Inside The NFL." And he looks at me and he goes, "Oh you're doing media?" And I go, "Yeah, you know, it's going to be kind of fun." I didn't know what I could say to him, he's scary, he's intimidating. And so he goes, "Now look. You can't be a homer. If you have to motherfuck us, you can motherfuck us." But it felt like a mafia meeting, but it was cool.

Mr. Cat: That's awesome. When you started telling that story, I would have thought that Belichick would be like, "Hey, don't say anything about...," but that's perfectly Belichick to be like, "No, you have to be truthful and honest, because that's the only way we'll get better."

Mr. Commenter: He's telling you, "Do your job."

Julian Edelman: He was telling me to do my job. It was fresh out of a movie, like I was at A Bronx Tale at an Italian restaurant and I see the old mob boss.

Does it get any more Bill Belichick than this? I thought Edelman did a great job sounding like his former head coach. I think I can speak for a lot of others in that this was a very cool way to have Edelman on the show. Hopefully Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter do it more often.
