At the beginning of the season I think a lot of people had the Padres vs the Yankees as a potential World Series matchup. And what a sexy matchup it would be. Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr. newly acquired Blake Snell and Yu Darvish taking on Gerrit Cole, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Luke Voit and the rest of the bombers, what more could you ask for? Well neither teams season has gone quite how they expected it to and theres a shot both of these teams miss the playoffs altogether. Which begs the question, if you were filling in the blanks on this sentence, what would the answer be? "I can't believe the ____ didn't make the playoffs!"
Jared: "Lets just say the standings are what they are, right? Lets say they stay exactly where they're at."
Jared: "Fill in the blank for me.... I can't believe the ___ didn't make the playoffs."
Dallas: "I can't believe the San Diego Padres didn't make the playoffs!"
Jared: "More so than the Yankees?"
Dallas: "They had them fighting the Dodgers for the division this year. That's just a quick reminder that absolutely fucking nobody on the planet earth had the San Franchismo Giants doing what they've done. It was Padres and Dodgers, lets see who's gonna battle that out...And the Giants are in that division too. Thats how the conversation started at the beginning on the season, that is not the conversation now."
It's a super interesting conversation that could have a few different answers so give the pod a listen to see how they rationalize their answers. But while we're on the Padres, you know they have to discuss the dugout incident with Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. The yelling, screaming, face to face pointing, it has to be talked about. It happened against the surging Cardinals so they will be brought up, as well as the rest of the playoff pictures as things are really starting to fall into place for October. Shohei Ohtani returned to the mound after we heard he may be done that so you know Dallas will have some words for that as well. The boys also....defend Gerrit Cole? Didn't expect that one.
