A Debate On The Most Unique Team Names in College Basketball Goes Totally Off The Rails

On this week's episode of the Barstool Bench Mob, we highlight a pair of huge commitments in the college basketball world. Jalen Duren reclassified to the Class of 2021 and committed to Memphis, while the defending National Champion Baylor Bears are already loading up for 2022, securing five star prospect Keyonte George. In addition to that, we take a look at Joe Lunardi's newest edition of a "Way Too Early Bracketology" and get excited over the teams in the field in the recently announced PK85 event set for next year.

There was also a unique storyline that took place earlier this week: Valparaiso University, out of the Horizon League, announced that the school would be changing their team name from the Crusaders to the Beacons. That got us thinking on today's episode of the Bench Mob: since the "Beacons" are a unique nickname, which other teams around the country stick out?

For some reason, the first thought that came into my head was the "Mean Green" of North Texas. Is it clever? Probably not. But it is certainly unique, since no other team in the country has that name. Unfortunately, this is where you could say things got ugly! My co-host Marty Mush and I were not on the same page when it came to this debate. Take a look:

Well, I guess we can agree to disagree. Anyways, here are some other unique College Nicknames that come to mind.

North Carolina Tar Heels

Evansville Purple Aces

Wichita State Shockers

Kent State Golden Flashes

Stetson Hatters

Saint Louis Billikens

St. Bonaventure Bonnies
