Michael Bennett Indicted For Felony Charge Of Pushing Past An Old Lady

This is a pretty wild story. When I first heard he was pushing an old lady, I assumed he was just pushing her around in her wheelchair. No harm in that. He was probably trying to help the old broad. Then I heard the full story. He pushed past a paraplegic security guard to get on the field of last year’s Super Bowl. The fact that she got injured and was elderly pushes this to a felony? It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Sure, you definitely shouldn’t push over old ladies, but a felony? For pushing his way onto the field? That hardly sounds malicious.

Also, and I might get some flack for this one, but what the fuck is the paraplegic lady doing as a security guard? At the Super Bowl no less. I understand inclusiveness and all that, but at some point being a paraplegic has to encumber her ability to do her job. Hey Betty, someone just ran onto the field at your security checkpoint. What are you going to do? Wheel after her? I hope you’ve got a lasso, cause you’re not cowboy collar tackling anyone. Her only hope of catching up to some streaker (or worse) is if someone like Michael Bennett is pushing her. No offense to the paraplegic community, but they are unarguably easier to knock over. Taking out the lack of malicious intent and the fact that he was just trying to squeeze through the crowd, the story is not as bad as the headline suggests.

We knew Bennett would come with baggage, but it will be interesting to watch this unfold.
