In Hindsight, It Was Probably A Little Ill-Advised For The Eagles Players To Start Dancing Before The 4th Quarter Yesterday

So I’m still trying to wrap my head around what in the actual heck happened yesterday at Lincoln Financial Field. As far as losses go, that was one of the worst that I can remember. Not because it was an ass kicking or anything like that. If this team gets blown out of the water than they get blown out of the water. But the way it happened yesterday was truly troubling. The fact that this team was up 17-0 at home and then went on to give up 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter is borderline shameful. And if you were watching the game yesterday, then chances are that you saw this moment as the Eagles’ special team players were dancing before the kickoff of the 4th quarter. A moment which these guys probably wished they had back right now.

A tad premature but listen, I get it. I know that this type of swagger and attitude was a crucial component of the Eagles’ identity last season. And they were starting to get some of that swagger back after their win last week in New York. I understand the Eagles trying to get back to the team they were last year. But there’s an old saying in sports that goes, “it’s not over until the fat lady sings”.

Now the important thing to keep in mind about that saying is that we don’t body shame anymore in 2018. You can’t go around calling singing ladies “fat” anymore, not in this climate. So with that being the case, the fat lady never ends up singing since you can’t call her fat in the first place. And if the fat lady never sings, then is the game ever over? The answer to that question–which the Eagles had to find out the hard way yesterday–is a resounding NO. The game is never over so the Eagles probably shouldn’t celebrate as if it is when there are still 15 minutes of football to play. I’m all for having fun but when your team is 3-4 and you just blew a 17-point lead at home as defending Super Bowl champs, maybe it’s time to get back to business a little before you can handle any more fun. Or take the exact opposite approach after such an abysmal loss. Either way.
