Did Doug Pederson Guarantee A Win Against The Cowboys This Week? An Investigative Report:

New York Jets v Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles already got themselves in a bit of trouble with handing over some free bulletin board material last week when aggressively irrelevant Zach Brown decided to call out Kirk Cousins through the media. He said that Kirk Cousins is the weak link of that Minnesota offense and that the Eagles would love to make him throw as much as possible. Which, in theory, is the right move but not when it’s coming from Zach Brown and then Kirk Cousins ends up throwing for 333 yards and 4 TDs.

Well now some folks out there are wondering if the Eagles have shit in their own mouths again for the 2nd week in a row. This time the quote in question is whether or not Doug Pederson guaranteed a win against Dallas on Sunday when he went on 94.1 WIP this morning. Here’s the clip.

So there you hear Doug Pederson (or at least someone whose voice sounds very similar to Doug Pederson’s) say that the Eagles are going to go down to Dallas and that they’re “going to win this football game”. But does that automatically mean that Doug Pederson guaranteed victory? In my very humble and in no way trying to backtrack opinion, no it absolutely does not.

Because here’s the thing–Doug Pederson never said that they’re going to win that football game just based on score alone. He could have been talking about a million different things right there. As everybody knows, there are games within the game. Maybe Doug Pederson was talking about how they’re going to win the turnover battle. Maybe he was talking about winning the time of possession battle. Maybe he was saying that they were just going to win simply by getting to the field earlier. Maybe he was talking about how the Eagles are going to win the penalty differential.

Now I realize that by following up the quote with “and when we do, we’re in first place in the NFC East” would lead you to believe that he was talking about winning the game on the scoreboard. But you still have to keep in mind that there are so many different ways that Doug Pederson could have meant that quote. And as a purveyor of truth, it is my duty to make sure that everybody realizes that Doug Pederson 100% definitely did not and 100% definitely would never guarantee a win like that, even though it without a doubt kind of sounded like he did.

Go Birds.
