Recap Of The Nuke Marvel Dropped On SDCC Last NIght

Timeline

So Marvel just firebombed the poor folks at San Diego Comic Con. Opened the bay doors and obliterated  all of us with no regard for human life. Here is a quick recap of the projects they’re dropping in the next 2 years.

Here is what the Eternals are about in the comics (via Inverse) “The Celestials are a race of godlike beings (Star-Lord’s father, Ego, being one of them). At the dawn of mankind in Marvel Comics, a Celestial called Nezarr the Calculator visited Earth and granted a certain number of prehistoric humanoids the ability to tap into cosmic power akin to the Infinity Stones. Using that power, Eternals are able to augment their own life force, making them invulnerable and essentially immortal. Using psionic powers, they can manipulate matter at the molecular level to do almost anything”

It’s directed by Chloé Zhao and starring Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh and Angelina Jolie as Thena. In theaters on November 6, 2020. This cast is absolutely insane, and there is really endless possibilities considering the scope of their powers.

nullThis Disney+ series will be set after the events of Endgame and will feature Falcon and Bucky Barnes fighting evil as a duo. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will be reprising their roles with Daniel Brühl reprising his role as Baron Zemo. This will debut in the fall of 2020. This rules because Mackie and Stan have an undeniably great chemistry both on and off set. If you never watched it before, you should watch the part in this clip of them and Winston Duke reading thirst tweets.

In the comics, Shang-Chi is a martial artist that is trained to be a bad guy but decides to use his powers for good. Simu Liu is playing the titular role, with Tony Leung playing the REAL Mandarin and Awkwafina playing an undetermined role. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing, and this will release on February 12th 2021. There is a wide open space for Shang-Chi to bring the gritty, Winter Soldier style fight choreography while being grounded in somewhat reality.

This Disney+ series will focus around Wanda and Vision (duh) and it will take place AFTER the events of Endgame. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are reprising their roles with Teyonah Parris joining as the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau from Captain Marvel. This will release in the spring of 2021. This name is incredibly bad, but they are two of the more powerful characters in the MCU.

This Disney+ series will see Tom Hiddleston returning and it will follow the character in another timeline after he stole the Tesseract in Endgame. This drops in Spring of 2021. This has the possibility to be great, mostly because fewer actors have attached themselves so gracefully to a role like Hiddleston has to the character of Loki.

The first horror film in the MCU, this sequel has Benedict Cumberbatch and director Scott Derrickson returning. The WandaVision series will also connect directly into the film as well in a surprise twist. This will release May 7th 2021. Ooooooo hell yea baby. I’ve long said that the original Doctor Strange was one of the more visually stunning movies I have seen in the past few years. Using that trippy, illusion SFX and looping into a horror element sounds like it’s right up my alley. The only part that kinda stinks is the loop in with WandaVision. This means to get the full experience of the film, you will have to be a Disney+ subscriber. I mean, I will be anyway, but still.

nullThe first animated series in the MCU, this series features stories that present alternate realities in the Marvel universe. Most of the MCU cast will be lending their voices to it, and Jeffrey Wright will narrate it as ‘The Watcher’. It will release on Disney+ summer 2021. What If-style stuff has always fascinated the shit out of me from a historical context. Applying that same idea to the hottest franchise in Hollywood is a dynamite idea.

This series will bring back Jeremy Renner in the role as he introduces the character Kate Bishop into the MCU. It releases on Disney+ in the fall of 2021. Hawkeye is a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The fourth film in the Thor franchise has Taika Waititi returning to direct with Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson AND Natalie Portman all reprising their roles. Portman will be playing Lady Thor in this as well. It’s set for release in November 5th 2021. I cannot even believe how fucking cool this is. Waititi, “Love and Thunder”, this INCREDIBLE logo?!! All the fucking butter in the world, man. Already my most anticipated movie out of this entire lineup.

Scarlett Johansson will be reprising her role with the joining member of David Harbour as Alexei aka The Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena, O-T Fagbenle as Mason and Rachel Weisz as Melina. The villain in this will be TASKMASTER. This is set for release on May 1st 2020. Black Widow is a dark horse to be one of the better movies out of this group. ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ was an INCREDIBLE espionage movie, and if they can apply that same level of craftsmanship to a Black Widow series, it can be amazing.

This is great news, because the Fantastic Four is often cited as some of the better comic books among Marvel properties. The movies all kind of sucked, but if there is anybody who has a chance to make it right, its Kevin Feige.

Lastly, here is the classic timeline pic. We might talk about this stuff for 3 hours on Mondays episode of LCB, so don’t forget to subscribe to Lights, Camera, Pod,follow us on Twitterfollow us on Instagram and join in on the conversation on our Reddit.
