NFL Power Rankings - Week 8

Power Rankings time. The top teams in the NFL remain the top teams in the NFL. The worst teams in the NFL remain the worst teams in the NFL. Remember to get mad online over my disrespect for your favorite teams!

32EDIT: I originally thought the Raiders had a bye… they didn’t, they got walloped by the Colts and continue to be the most forgettable team in the NFL

31Time for the rebuild in New York, as the dysfunctional Giants with a bad coach and worse offensive line drop to 1-7.

30They lost to a one-win team this past week (the Cardinals) and now face off against another one-win team in primetime on Thursday night football (the Raiders).

29The Bills have scored a combined 11-points in their last two blowout losses.

28It wasn’t a great performance, but Josh Rosen was solid enough to get the Cardinals another win, even if it was against the 49ers.

27The Jets kept it close against the Bears but continued their trend of offensive struggles in their losses.

26They finally fired Hue Jackson. That’s a win in my book!

25After two straight wins, the Colts must be kicking themselves for those blown 4th quarter chances to pick up three more wins early in the season.

24Another close loss to the Chiefs is a nice moral victory, but that’s about it.

23FitzMagic is back! Everyone knows it will be an up and down ride with Fitzpatrick back behind the wheel, but Jameis’ inconsistencies were far too glaring.

22Yeah, I can finally confirm it, the Dolphins aren’t very good and the early great start was a mirage.

21The Cowboys sat idle this past weekend and head into a brutal stretch of make-or-break games against the Titans, Eagles (twice), Falcons, Redskins and Saints.

20Another team on a bye, the Falcons need a few more wins to get back into the mix for real, but you can still consider me a believer in this team.

19Yikes. The wheels have fallen off for the Jaguars with four straight losses and it’s do-or-die for the should-be AFC contenders with four of their next five games against the Colts (twice), Bills and Titans.

18It was starting to seem as though the Lions were back on track, but they are still right in the thick of the NFC North race even with the loss to the Seahawks

17The bye week was very much needed for a Titans team that had lost three straight following their big home win against the Eagles.

16Just like that, with an impressive win in Detroit, the presumed-to-be-dead Seahawks sit in the last Wild Card slot halfway through the season.

15They don’t have any signature wins, but the Texans have managed to rattle off five-straight and rise from the ashes of their 0-3 start.

14I don’t believe in the Ravens all that much, especially after the Panthers shredded their defense, but at least October is over. Baltimore is the third worst October football team since the 2015 season.

13The Eagles got a very much-needed win in London and, despite their disappointing first half of the season, are within arm’s reach of the division and the Wild Card.

12It was a nice bounce-back win for the Bengals but it’s hard to ignore the fact that their defense has been torched the last two weeks.

11The Panthers had an impressive win and offensive performance over a Ravens team that had walked into the game with a solid defense.

10Are the Redskins good? I think? Their lead in the division isn’t very big but they have a stretch of very winnable games to help them solidify their playoff positioning.

09I might believe in the Bears more than most, but I have a hard time ranking this defense (who were without Khalil Mack this week) and first place team any lower than the Top 10.

08You can’t drop a team after they lose a road game to the best team in NFL, especially after one player fumbled away a chance to win the game in the final minute on a kickoff return.

07The Vikings were outscored by the Saints 23-7 after they took the lead early in the second quarter. They are better than they were at the start of the season, but Minnesota’s defense still has some issues.

06So much for that slow start from the Steelers as they grabbed their third straight win convincingly over the Browns.

05This Chargers team is quietly still alive in the AFC West after four straight wins and games against the Seahawks, Raiders, Broncos, and Cardinals over the course of the next four weeks.

04I thought about moving the Saints up over the Chiefs after road wins in Baltimore and Minnesota, but they have a chance to call themselves the best team in the NFC if they’re able to knock off the Rams this week.

03It wasn’t a very convincing win over a mediocre Broncos squad, and the defense is still suspect, but Patrick Mahomes continues to wreak havoc on NFL defenses.

02The Patriots are still very, very good, folks.

01They squeaked it out at home but a big win against the Packers, ahead of games against the Saints and Chiefs, solidifies the Rams as the best team in the NFL.

Okay, see you next week.
