Nasdaq- McDonald’s is going to discontinue a popular item that has been on the menu for decades – the Hi-C Orange Lavaburst – from May 1, according to a memo posted on Reditt. With customers having only a few more days to get their hands on the iconic, popular beverage before its gone forever, McDonald’s is already facing a backlash for its decision.

McDonald’s franchises nationwide will start phasing out the popular beverage starting on May 1. After July, all McDonald’s locations will stop carrying Hi-C Orange Lavaburst. The fast-food giant will replace the vibrant orange drink with a new “proprietary” beverage called Sprite TropicBerry, beginning this July. The new drink will be served only at McDonald’s restaurants as part of the company’s partnership with Coca-Cola.

WHY RONALD? WHYYYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?! Like I blogged last month, the only fast food drink that could touch McDonald’s Coke is McDonald’s Orange Drink. Basically the king and queen of the fast food drink game. I refuse to call it Orange Hi-C because I’ve had Orange Hi-C outside of McDonald’s and it doesn’t taste the same. I don’t know if McDonald’s gets a special batch, the fried food accents the orange notes, or it was just the most refreshing thing on the menu. But the suits at Mickey D’s apparently want to kill the silver medalist of fast food drinks. And while I want to get angry, I can’t blame them. I can’t remember the last time I had Orange Drink at McDonald’s. I unknowingly turned my back on the drink that got me through elementary school. Forgot about an old friend. Now he is about to go away forever to fast food heaven with the Arch Deluxe and the KFC Double Down. And while I’ve never heard of Sprite TropicBerry, it has the weight of the world on its shoulders like any athlete that has to replace a legend. Hopefully it’s more Andrew Luck than Didi Gregorious.

If the Mets haven’t made me feel shitty enough the last week or so, this news puts me down in the dumps on a sunny Friday*.

*Until I buy the largest Orange Hi-C that McDonald’s is legally allowed to sell me. And hey have to be just giving away the stuff by the gallon on May 2nd, right?
