Fred Wilpon Reportedly Stopped Sandy Alderson From Firing Terry Collins

Atlanta Braves v New York Mets

Newsday- Mets owner Fred Wilpon repeatedly protected Terry Collins, even as his son, chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon, and general manager Sandy Alderson sought the manager’s dismissal at various points during his tenure, an example of rifts that resurfaced as a season of promise slipped away, according to more than a dozen team insiders interviewed by Newsday.

Despite what the front office perceived as Collins’ constant tactical blunders and concerns about his relationships with the players, sources said efforts to explore a change seriously were thwarted by the elder Wilpon.

People with knowledge of the situation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described organizational dysfunction, discord between Collins and his players, and a broken relationship between the manager and the front office. Despite what the front office perceived as Collins’ constant tactical blunders and concerns about his relationships with the players, sources said efforts to explore a change seriously were thwarted by the elder Wilpon.

WJust when you thought this Mets season had bottomed out and nothing could depress you more than the state of this team, we get this report. Fred Wilpon refusing to fire a manager that the players and front office no longer wanted. Actually lets include the fans in there too since they’ve been sick of Terry foreverrrrrrr now. Keeping around a manager nobody wants because you like him is as James Dolan as it gets. Who cares about what everyone that knows anything about baseball in the organization, as well as Jeff Wilpon, thinks about the situation. Freddie Coupon loves his little Terry and would never fire him no matter how many times he fucked up a basic baseball move. I’m sure Freddie Coupon would also rather break Bernie Madoff out of jail than pay the salary for a manger that he just fired. I mean you don’t sell off some of your best trade assets for a team that could be competitive unless you are a cheap fuck. What a disaster.

And the worst part of this report is that Jeff Wilpon actually comes out looking good. The face of the next generation of Mets misery doing something right will likely cause us more harm than good. Everything you read about Jeff tells you that he has the anti-Midas touch. Jeff Wilpon has been responsible for more messy, shitty situations that Chaps’ digestive system over the last ten years. Yet somehow he comes off as the smart Wilpon here.

At least Sandy looks good in this since he wasn’t asleep at the wheel of a dead team. I was worried why he hadn’t put Terry out of his misery. Turns out he was overruled from up above. He probably wishes he could throw Ray Ramirez into a volcano, but that’s not how the Mets roll. If the Wilpons like you, you are on scholarship for life. Sandy is probably counting the seconds until he can leave this ship full of carcasses and retire to San Diego. Fuck this team, man.

UPDATE: For real, fuckkkkkk this team.

The Mets may have struggled to keep their stars healthy this season, but all indications are the team’s longtime trainer, Ray Ramirez, won’t be made a scapegoat for those injuries.

Multiple team sources have said in recent days that Ramirez is safe for 2018, even after a season in which Noah Syndergaard, Yoenis Cespedes, Jeurys Familia and Matt Harvey, among others, had extended stays on the disabled list.

Along the same lines, general manager Sandy Alderson recently told The Post the club intends to retain Mike Barwis, the team’s senior advisor for strength and conditioning. Barwis has a close working relationship with Cespedes and is deemed important in trying to keep the star outfielder on the field in 2018.
