Bryson DeChambeau Reportedly Told Brooks Koepka's Caddy That If Brooks Has Something To Say About Slow Play To "Say It To My Face"

Spicy! That’s some spicy gossip coming from the putting green out at Liberty National! Bryson DeChambeau telling Brooks Koepka’s caddy that if he wants to say something to him about slow play, say it to his face! That’s right, tell that guy’s caddy that his golfer needs to say it to him and nobody else. I’d REALLY love to know how the conversation between Brooks and Bryson went.
We’re friendly with both of these guys, and I’m not rooting for a scuffle to break out on the driving range at a PGA Tour event, but that’s exactly what I’m rooting for. Let’s get golf some much-needed street cred, interest would be through the roof
For those that don’t know, these are some of Brooks’ comments about slow play in the past (this was all the way back in January)
“I just don’t understand how it takes a minute and 20 seconds, a minute and 15 to hit a golf ball; it’s not that hard,” Koepka told Weston. “It’s always between two clubs; there’s a miss short, there’s a miss long. It really drives me nuts especially when it’s a long hitter because you know you’ve got two other guys or at least one guy that’s hitting before you so you can do all your calculations; you should have your numbers. Obviously if you’re the first guy you might take ten extra seconds, but it doesn’t take that long to hit the ball, especially if it’s not blowing 30. If it’s blowing 30 I understand taking a minute and taking some extra time with some gusts, you know changing just slightly, I get that but if it’s a calm day there’s no excuse.
“Guys are already so slow it’s kind of embarrassing. I just don’t get why you enforce some things and don’t enforce others.”
This is what Brooks said this week about slow play
“It’s gotten out of hand,” Koepka said. “It seems there are so many sports psychologists and everybody telling everybody that they can’t hit until they are ready; you have to fully process everything. I take 15 seconds and go, and I’ve done all right. So I don’t understand taking a minute and a half.”
Bryson obviously took offense to something Brooks said along the line and was fed up.
All of this slow play stuff has been bubbling just below the surface for awhile now but it all got reignited this weekend after video of Bryson taking 3 minutes to hit a 70-yard shot

After those videos went viral, Bryson addressed it at his next press conference
“I’ll tell you that it’s really kind of unfortunate the way it’s perceived because there’s a lot of other guys that take a lot of time,” said DeChambeau. “They don’t talk about this matter, and for me personally, it is an attack and it is something that is not me whatsoever. People don’t realize the harm that they are doing to the individuals.”
“For example, we have 2-and-a-half minutes, 2 minutes, to walk to the next shot for most Tour players,” said DeChambeau. “That’s how long it takes. Go look it up. And so, we are looking at it in that light, we have 40 seconds to hit a shot. Some players take 25 seconds, 20 seconds. Cool. I take 30 seconds on average. You can look that up.”
Bryson obviously isn’t the only player who takes his time out there. JB Holmes is the biggest offender of slow play, which Brooks was not a fan of at the Open
So where does that leave us? I’m not really sure. It’s true that slow play suuuuuuuuuuucks and it has to be absolutely brutal to play with a guy who takes forever (especially when you’re somebody like Brooks who plays lightning fast). Some people have gone as far as to say that slow play should be considered cheating because it messes with the rhythm of the golfer they’re playing with, which is a totally fair point.
On the other hand, what’s the motivation for the guys who play slow to speed it up? Currently nothing other than getting shamed by their fellow competitors and that hasn’t done anything. The guys aren’t being penalized and have been making good money playing the way they’ve been playing so, in their eyes, there’s no reason to change things up. Something tells me this slow play saga is nowhere close to being over.
