Brooks Koepka Shows Up 45 Minutes Before His Tee Time, Shoots A 65 And Wins His First WGC Event

Welp, that’s one way to shut people up who keep saying that Brooks should take non-major tournaments more seriously, looking at you Frankie Borrelli. You really have to wonder if Brooks caught wind of the things people were saying about him (again, Frankie Borrelli) and decided to get himself a non-major win just to shove it down those people’s (Frankie Borrelli’s) throats. There’s been a lot of discussion around Koepka, the comments he’s made about non-major tournaments and whether or not he should put more emphasis on them.

These were the much-talked about comments

Those comments led to people wondering, if Brooks just prepared for non-majors a little more/at all, could he dominate them the way he’s dominated majors recently? Well how do you get the best of both worlds? You show up 45 minutes before your Sunday tee time, fire a 65 and take home the W. A WGC win nonetheless which makes his feat that much more impressive.

I will say, showing up only 45 minutes before his tee time made it so the story about Brooks could only go one of two ways. If he hadn’t played so well and not won the tournament, the story would’ve been that he just didn’t care enough. If he wins (which he obviously did), the story is that Brooks is a legend and can simply show up and win golf tournaments with little prep because he’s just that good. Which to be fair was kind of Frankie’s point in terms of giving Brooks an excuse for not winning non majors.

But he did win so the one we’re going with is he’s a super talented legend, which also happens to be true. Brooks is a legend who can win golf tournaments with little prep because he’s just that talented and that on top of his game right now. Sometimes media narratives align with the truth and this is one of those times. What a beast.
