This Picture of Geoffrey the Giraffe Is God Damn Heart Breaking

I mean honest to god, that could be the saddest picture I’ve ever seen. Legit makes me sad. Look at Geoffrey, hat on, suitcase in hand, waving goodbye, ready to leave his store for the last time. Makes me upset just typing that. I keep scrolling up to look at him and it’s so freaking sad. Blockbuster going out of business stunk, but we had other options. Losing Sam Goody sucked but we had Kazaa and Napster and then iTunes and now Spotify. But losing Toys R Us…man, that feels different. It really is one of those “man, my childhood is DEAD” moments. Like…it’s Toys R Us! It’s a staple of every kid’s life. Either going into the store and picking out a toy, or scouring the catalog for toys you hope you got for your birthday or Christmas. And now what will kids do? Make an Amazon wish list like the way porn stars do? Ugh. Technology is great, I’m all about technology putting old-school places to bed because they couldn’t adapt to the times, but this one in particular is hitting me hard. Kids need toy stores! Parents need toy stores to feel good about taking their kids to! And now poor Geoff looks like he’s about to go down to Boca and sit out on the golf course with Cousin Mike. I just looked at it again- Saddest picture ever.
