Notre Dame Standout & Former Navy Midshipmen Gets Angry Letter From "Six" Butthurt Military Veterans

In case you don’t have your monocle on-the-ready to read that small font, here’s a letter Alohi Gilman received from six sincerely lame “veterans and college football fans” who are upset he left the Naval Academy for Notre Dame & a now has a shot at the NFL draft:

Mr. Gilman,

We must express utter contempt for you and your educational career decisions over the past couple of years.

You were honored with the highest appointment to the United States Naval Academy and were given a one year prep school scholarship because of your questionable academic record. And how do you thank our great country for giving you a chance to serve? You spit on the flag and transfer because you believe you can make the NFL *quicker.

Much more talented players than you received their commission, served their country, and went on on the NFL. Just watching you get beaten badly and totally embarrassed by Clemson yesterday shows you’re mediocre at best.

It goes without saying you are a coward. Our military is probably better off not having you amongst its ranks, but this will accompany you throughout your life.

We strongly urge you to commit to some form of service in the future. It will help to rehabilitate your image as well as give you a chance to atone.

Sincerely,

Six veterans and college football fans!

I’m sure this is a real letter that Gilman received, but what I find hard to believe is that “six veterans” circled up their wagons to pen this embarrassing, butthurt (that’s twelve upset cheeks) rant. Maybe it was actually just one grumpy vet? Or a wacko mega ‘patriot’? Someone trying to sound tougher than they are?

Or ::sad sigh:: maybe it was really a group of ‘disgruntled vets’. If so, I assure you they were all wearing some variation of this T-shirt as they printed out the final draft:

And I hope they wind up in a circular human centipede. And I also hope a tiny TV is installed above each butt so each person has to watch Gilman highlights on replay for the next 10 years. (Speaking of highlights, he’s got plenty after ending the Notre Dame season with 76 tackles, big interceptions & exemplary leadership behind the scenes.)

Whoever did write it – what do they want from Gilman anyway?

He’s a young college student sorting out his life, & he’s not going to get hemmed in somewhere he doesn’t want to be on account of some self-righteous whiner/s. Not that he owed reasons to anyone, but he spoke openly about how difficult the decision to leave Navy was, why he did, & how grateful he was to the program. He also followed the rules, sat out the whole 2017 season & is thriving on the path he’s now chosen. It’s not some super common thing, or a huge problem, and if you’re slighting him for those choices you just plain ‘ol suck.

And worth noting – Being able to leave the academies prior to the start of Junior year isn’t limited to athletes. Any student can leave without owing any time or money. Whether you’re an engineer with an eye on Silicon Valley or a starting pitcher with your heart set on the Cardinals, the option is yours until it isn’t. That option is important.

Go ahead, Alohi, take that waiver & wave to ‘em.
