The Weed Taxes Are Absolutely PREPOSTEROUS

You may have heard but Marijuana aka Dope became legal in Illinois this week. As I blogged everybody was SO EXCITED

But that was long before I was given a chance to look at a receipt and holy shit is this outrageous. You’re looking at $67 for an 1/8th and a cartridge which is absurd. And with it, the door to your local drug dealer bursts right back open. The wax – okay fine that’s some exotic stuff. Your buddy from high school may or may not have it, but edibles at $65 is more highway robbery. These prices in and of themselves are absurd and this is well before the state of Illinois takes their chunk:

It doesn’t take my CPA license (suck on that) to tell you the state of Illinois just took down 33.6% of taxes on that already outrageous subtotal of $225.75.

I could complain but it’s Illinois so this is no surprise. Instead I’d rather figure out how many of you can actually afford this. Imagine all the drugs you buy from here on out just got 40% more expensive. Obviously you’re still doing those drugs – that’s why they’re drugs – but wouldn’t you be more willing to go to another source? Isn’t that why 75% of all NFL jersey sales occur in China?

Personally I don’t have an extra $75.85 laying around to throw at our mushroom stamped pension crisis. Good chance you don’t either and for those reasons let me tap into my inner Portland douchebag (I had a wedding in Bend one time) and encourage you guys to buy local until the industry I’m criticizing attempts to sponsor any of my content. For now you can take your 33% and shove it.
