Hot Mic Pics Up Mayor Lori Lightfoot Insulting One Of Chicago's Top Cops At City Hall

Alright so pretty wild story out of city hall yesterday that’s well on its way of being swept under the rug.

If you watch above, that’s the #2 guy at the Fraternal Order of Police, which is the union that’s been repping Chicago’s 8,000+ police officers for almost 40 years. Generally speaking, you want your public and union officials to have healthy working relationships. Sometimes that means duffle bags of cash, other times that means not changing your family’s health insurance deductible. At all times though it means not publicly trashing the other lest you want guys like me airing your dirty laundry like it’s 7th grade and Theresa just gave Danny a handjob on the bus ride back from the Shedd.

TO THE TAPE:

CHICAGO (CBS) — Mayor Lori Lightfoot offered an apology, of sorts, after she was caught on a live microphone calling a Fraternal Order of Police vice president a “clown” during the public comment period of Wednesday’s City Council meeting.

“I’m sorry that I said it out loud,” she said.

Quick interruption to note that’s a fantastic fucking apology. Like part of me kind of likes that she just practically ruined the chance of collaborating with the police union throughout her tenure for no other reason then we get to see the mayor back peddle for the first time and this is what we get: I’m sorry I said it out loud.

OUT LOUD.

What a fucking qualifier to the apology. Classic lawyer speak there. She’s not sorry he’s a clown. She’s sorry it got live streamed on Facebook. That’s like when my wife is mad at me and I say I’m Sorry Your Feelings Got Hurt. That’s how you bob and weave an apology.

So even if she is a complete asshole and moron for being a complete asshole and moron, you have to respect her TOUGHNESS.

Lightfoot’s comments were caught on an open microphone – and showed how tough and opinionated the mayor can be.

TOLD YOU SO

The mayor’s insult was caught by a microphone on a Facebook video live-streaming Wednesday’s meeting as FOP Vice President Pat Murray was walking up to speak to the mayor and aldermen at the start of the meeting.

“Oh, back again,” Lightfoot whispered. “This is this FOP clown.”

After the meeting was over, reporters made Lightfoot aware of the gaffe. She said, “It was not appropriate for me to say that out loud.”

And in the same vein, in the rare instance my wife is wants to say sorry, she says: I Apologize and it’s sincerely the coldest thing you’ve ever heard in your life. Like what do you mean we have to go home early because you had too many double vodka sodas? We just got to the bar.

I APOLOGIZE.

Lightfoot sparred with Murray at the previous City Council meeting last month, when he said the mayor should be seeking input from the union representing rank-and-file police officers as she seeks to reform the department.

“What you failed to do, mayor, is you failed to take and ask the FOP for our input,” he said.

Lightfoot didn’t waste any time firing back, accusing the FOP of opposing any reforms.

“Anytime that the FOP wants to do anything other than obstruct and object to reform, I’d be more than willing to meet with you,” she said.

And this is where I’ll reel it back in for just a hot second to be semi-serious.

The FOP is largely objecting that 4 officers got fired for covering up the LaQuan McDonald murder. The FOP is arguing Rahm Emanuel and City Hall were covering their own ass and needed to hang the blame on someone other than themselves. So the FOP wants to rep it’s members and say FUCK YOU to Rahm Emanuel and the corrupt politics that lead to the corrupt cover up in the first place. And as it stands Rahm Emanuel is consulting some private equity company somewhere getting his dick sucked and drinking mai thais and the thought of it makes me sick.

Love it or hate it, the FOP is doing exactly what unions do. It’s standing up for its guys and saying this was all bullshit and needs to get looked at again. I don’t think anyone can disagree with that when this was the #1 reason Rahm Emanuel didn’t go for reelection anyways. He literally got run out of town over this, so the FOP is saying don’t pin the conspiracy on us, take it to the 5th floor of City Hall.

Again, love it or hate it, that’s what the FOP is there for and it’s important to remember unions were basically born in Chicago. It’s going to take constitutional amendments to change their level of influence. It’s as much a part of this city as the 85 Bears and hating ketchup.

If I were a cop, I’d be so fucking salty right now. The job is already impossible. Now mix in Chicago’s #1 blatantly disrespecting the guys you’ve democratically elected to represent your vested interests and it just seems like the deck is stacked against you.

Just sucks.

Buy all your cop buddies a Miller Lite this weekend. The Mayor may not have much respect for you but Barstool Chicago sure as fuck does.
