A Must Listen For Hawks Fan, Biz Breaks Down The Hossa-Torres Hit

As you might have seen on social media in the last 24 hours, the Spittin Chiclets boys are in Chicago this week doing interviews. Murderers row of guests lined up that I couldn’t be more jealous of. Duncan Keith, Kirby Dach, Sopel, and a few more. They stopped by and did 40 minutes of the best hockey talk you’ll hear in Chicago. We talked about Stan, Colliton, the current team, Biz had GREAT insights on Jonathan Toews training, and Whit basically asked to move into our Chicago office he loves it so much.

One of the most satisfying parts of the interview though…Biz admitted that Mike Smith flopped in that 2012 series vs the Blackhawks. This hit

Cost Andrew Shaw three games. On the podcast I said it was two. It was THREE games. And he got a 5 minute major with a game misconduct penalty so it was really like a 3.5 game suspension. That’s over half the series. And why…because Smith flopped and Brendan Shanahan and the refs took the bait. They held Smith out of practice. They made a big deal about how he was in concussion protocol. They announce the suspension and POOF, Mike Smith magically recovers in time to start the next game. A miracle.

I hated the Coyotes for a long time. Kind of still do and it all stems from that series. Between the Smith flop and the Torres hit on Hossa it felt like the Coyotes stole that series from the Hawks.

I was at that game and sitting in the 5th row, not to brag. Hit happened right in my line of sight. I saw the doctor jump out on the ice. I legit thought about calling the police to arrest Torres. That’s assault, brother. And somehow after that hit where the Hawks lose arguably their best all around forward for the rest of the series the Blackhawks came out shorthanded because Bollig tried to fight Torres and Torres wouldn’t answer the bell so they gave Bollig a roughing penalty. You know what…I am still mad about it. Those two things cost the Blackhawks the series and who knows what happens if they get out of that round. Maybe the battle with LA had another round.

Either way, it was awesome having Biz, Whit, RA, and Grinnell into our office yesterday. They’re a monster podcast and had a busy schedule. A lot of people would blow off an invitation and would be in their right to do so. Not those guys. Good people, absolute pros on the mic. Great hockey guys. If you’re in Chicago you can come on out to Binnys Today and meet them. Details below
