I've Watched Prince's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" Solo At Least Once A Week For Years Now

I want you to know – right now – that my headline is not hyperbole, or an exaggeration of any sort, whatsoever.

I’ve literally watched the above video of Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, Prince, and many others paying tribute to George Harrison at the 2004 Hall of Fame Inductions hundreds upon hundreds of times, at LEAST once a week, for, again, literally, a few years at this point.

It’s the greatest cover I’ve ever seen, hands down, and it’s all because of one man – Prince – and what he does with a guitar to close out the tune, shredding like no other guitarist ever has (and no other guitarist ever will), making George Harrison’s son himself beam with joy…

…falling backwards into security guards…

…and launching his axe into bolivian when he’s finished with it, knowing he just lit everybody’s fucking worlds on fire…

From the moment His Royal Badness makes his grand entrance on, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more badass, musically mind-blowing, cool, suave, and elegant encapsulation of what it means to be a god damn rockstar. I can’t even watch the clip without making John Mayer-style stank faces while Prince is doin’ his thing, I just get totally lost in the sauce. I think it’s my favorite guitar solo of all time, and I’m STILL picking up new little things and details about it on every watch.

I just wanted to share this with y’all this morning, hopefully bringing it to a few of you for the very first time, and reminding the rest how worth a rewatch it is.

Bonus: Prince’s face-melting solo at Coachella 2008 during his cover of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’…
