"It's About To Be Crazy G" - Kyrie Irving

DIpg7opXUAATgTh

The Celtics have had some pretty major introductory press conferences in their recent history. There was obviously the most hyped press conference I can remember when this happened,

and then there was the Horford one last summer.

This summer, the Celtics certainly have been busy, but all we’ve gotten so far was some comments from Baynes, and Tatum

Then, Brad worked his magic and snagged his long lost love in Gordon Hayward. That was on July 4th. Days, then weeks, and now months have gone by and still no press conference. That always felt a little weird. Did we ever get an explanation as to why it never happened? If we did I missed it, so naturally my brain started wandering.

I mean probably not, but stay with me here. I can’t help but think this plan has been in place since before David Griffin got fired.

Think about it. Once Kyrie demanded a trade, it came out that he even wanted out back in June. Enter the Fultz deal. Why draft a PG when you have Kyrie in your sights? That PHI trade makes more sense, you need that LAL pick because you’re giving up your BKN pick. Then factor in Tatum changing his number from 11 to 0 back in what, early July? You know what also happened early in July? Ainge’s #1 target in George got traded. Probably when the Kyrie talks got more real. Then you had a fired Griffin be the first guy to leak Boston’s name. It all lines up too perfectly to not be true. Just tryin to connect some dots here.

Now, in terms of the press conference, I have some thoughts

– Gordon’s suit was a 15/10. Was it Jos A Bank? Not sure it matters, that thing was absolute fire

– The first opportunity Kyrie had to start to win me over he did. How? The way he keeps talking about being in a place that is going to get the most out of his potential. Basically saying Lebron is the worst teammate of all time in the history of basketball and one player doesn’t carry a whole team. Sneaky Lebron hating will earn you brownie points in this blog, that is my promise

– Good job good effort whoever was in charge of the audio to start this press conference on the radio. Couldn’t hear absolute dick for the first 5 minutes. Some of us are stuck at work and don’t have a TV on maybe the biggest day of their entire summer. That wasn’t great

– I’m going to need Kyrie to grow his beard back. I get new environment, new person, but that needs to come back by Oct 17th, no exception. How do we know his basketball powers aren’t enhanced by that beard? Why risk it

– OK fine, hearing Gordon talk about Isaiah made me tear up. You don’t have a heart if the same didn’t happen to you

– Disappointed Danny took the high road when talking about the trade. Throw some shade for me one time Danny come on. Gilbert is a buffoon, you know it, we know it, everybody knows it

– I’m all for Kyrie growing as a person and all that bullshit. However, I am more interested in his growth as a player. We need that more

– Brad NAILED it when talking about this team and their expectations. Don’t think I’m not reading into Brad kind of joking about defense with Kyrie but also being 10000% serious

– Not sure how many more players have to say it, Al, Hayward, and now Kyrie. Guys WANT to play for Brad. He has made Boston a destination despite it being a players league. Extend him for the rest of his life

– I can’t grow a beard either, so looks like myself, PFT and Brad are all pretty much the same person

– Kyrie speaks more intelligently at 25 than I ever have and probably ever will. I don’t know what that means, but I find it refreshing

– HOW WAS THERE NO FLAT EARTH QUESTION?

I know these moves were already real before today’s press conference, but seeing them together, gushing about playing for the Celtics, it really is unbelievable. I think if you asked Celtics fans at the beginning of this rebuild if this is where you think they would be, nobody would say yes. Not even me. It’s important to remember though, this is just half the battle. They now have to put up or shut up because this is the most talent the Celtics have had since the Big 3. Brad is no longer a inexperienced coach who doesn’t have elite talent. They showed what could happen when they got that talent last year, and they just injected more.

If the chemistry that Kyrie and Gordon had during this press conference translates onto the basketball court, holy shit.

P.S

What a crazy, crazy ride this has been
