"I Don't Care Where I Go In Free Agency" - Terry Rozier Opened Up About The Celtics Season From Hell

Pretty interesting interview from Terry Rozier if you ask me. Now that the season is over Terry hasn’t been shy to make his voice heard, last week talking about how nobody sacrificed more than him , and while he may have been the root of many problems for the Celts this year I also find him to be pretty honest when speaking with the media. Normally when a guy is about to his free agency and he goes on these TV shows you expect nothing but cliche answers because I’m sure his agent is telling him to not mess anything up that could come back to bite him this summer.

But I thought what he said about this whole disaster of a season was intriguing. This wasn’t the first time we heard that things were wildly different in practice that never seemed to translate into games. Terry talked about how he knew it was going to be hard 5 games into the year, and if you remember the Celtics were 3-2, got worked by TOR on the road and then lost at home to the Magic during that span after barely beating the Knicks. It was certainly not a fast start. I thought it was really telling when he was pressed to describe why things were different on the floor and he said this

“You gotta play with guys tendencies, you still playin with superstars out there. You gotta adjust to that”

Then going on to talk about how the adjustment was really rough for him (yeah no shit Terry we could all tell), but let’s not act like part of all the drama surrounding his year wasn’t somewhat self inflicted. Then going on to talk about how basically whatever Kyrie wants Kyrie gets and it’s up to everyone else to adjust shed light on I think what a major problem was. He kept going back to the point about how the game was different than practice, which makes me feel like maybe the problem was Kyrie never stuck to the gameplan? Or he just decided to throw it out the window and do his own thing and everyone else didn’t know what to do? Why else would Terry mention that multiple times when talking about Kyrie.

But don’t think Terry was going to let Brad off the hook. There were some digs in there about his rotations which is valid. That was something Brad never really figured out all year which isn’t the best look for him. When pressed about his future, all Terry would say is he expects to get his chance. Well read between the lines folks, that’s a man that knows there are going to be multiple options for him to start in this league, and perhaps he’s already begged Ainge not to match. But there’s a chance he also knows Kyrie is leaving and that’s why he said maybe it’s with the Celtics.

All I know is this. There was a lot of truth to what Rozier said about the struggles of this team, and while he doesn’t escape without blame, he basically confirmed what many people were saying all year.
