There's Always That One Guy In The Locker Room Who Forgets To Bring Half Of His Equipment
So Kyle Turris is joining Team Canada at the World Championships today. While he, himself, made it to the rink for their game today against Germany, his bag did not. So he’s currently wearing Mat Barzal’s skates, using Aaron Ekblad’s stick, and another collection of donated pads from the boys. Which is funny considering he’s an NHL player at the World Championships. But everybody has a guy on their beer league squad who is exactly like Kyle Turris and it’s seemingly every damn week.
Every single game, this dude shows up to the rink with only one elbow pad and one shinguard. Always asking people if they have an extras in their bag as if beer leaguers are just carrying around entire pro shops with them. No, buddy, I’ve been wearing the same elbow pads since high school you actually think I have an extra pair laying around? Someone finally hands him an extra sock to ball up and tape around his arms to serve as an elbow pad. But guess what. Buddy now needs to “borrow” some tape to attach his sock elbow pad around his arm. He’s asking around the locker room asking anybody if he can use a roll. Everybody avoids making eye contact with him at this point like he’s got the plague. But finally someone bites the bullet and throws him their roll of clear. Big mistake.
Because not only does he use half the roll to attach the sock to his elbow. But then he decides to just take it upon himself to use that roll to tape up his actual socks. And it’s not just a quick little one-wrap under the knee. Dude is crisscrossing all over the place and by the time he finally gives back the roll, you’re one layer away from cardboard. It’s devastating. But don’t worry. He always hits you with, “I’ll grab the next roll next week”. You’ve still been waiting on that roll of tape for 3 years. But he swears he’s got you next time.
