Time For West Chester Football To Get Some Much Deserved Local Love

Take a guess who was been the best collegiate football team in the Philadelphia area this year. Temple? Sadly back to laughable standards after a 2-10 campaign. Villanova or Delaware? Just barely over .500. Even recently perennial D-III squads the likes of Widener and Del Val didn’t make it into the dance less a ECAC defeat for the Aggies from F&M. Nope. It’s been BY FAR the West Chester Golden Rams who are traveling down to North Carolina to face off in the D-II Football Final Four on Saturday.

13-1. 2 to go. Only loss all year was a heart breaker to Bloomsburg at home during the regular season by 3 points but went on to spank them in the playoffs. Yeah, if you know me you know I’ve got my fair share of connections to the team from my best friends who starred on the gridiron back in their heyday to players and the coaching staff now. Hell, if I wasn’t a buck-80 TE running a lightning 5 flat 40 out of high school I’d probably be an alumni instead of wasting away in the uselessness of the D-III ranks. But ANYTIME a local non-soccer and/or woman’s team makes it this far in the national spotlight I’m going to give them love, because they deserve it. Simple as that.

This squad is actually a blast to watch with a couple of guys that are going to get legit looks from the league. A high motor spread-ish offense combined with an old school split-6 defense that ball hawks with the best of them. Tune into ESPN 3 on Saturday at noon to see them face off vs Lenoir-Rhyne.

Also worth mentioning, this is the starting QB.

Kid’s had a hell of a year, but sweet Jesus that’s a super ging. After this thing leads WC to the national title they should burn it on the field.
