The Lehigh Valley Phantoms Won The Longest Game In AHL History After 5 Overtime Periods And 94 Saves From Alex Lyon

I guess you could say Lehigh Valley was playing chess while Charlotte was playing checkers….

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (Flyers affiliate) and the Charlotte Checkers (Hurricanes affiliate) are currently playing in the 2nd round of the AHL Playoffs. The Phantoms had a 2-1 lead in the series heading into last night. And after 3 periods, 5 overtimes and 94 saves from Alex Lyon, the Phantoms took a 3-1 lead in the series.

94 saves in one playoff game. I don’t think that Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth had a combined 94 saves total against the Penguins. And here comes Alex Lyon putting up damn near triple digit shots after 86:48 of overtime AHL playoff action. What a goddamn legend.

Now I’m sure that Lyon is thrilled with the win and everything like that, but you have to imagine that at least a small part of him is pretty pissed he couldn’t get 100 saves, right? Come the frig on, Charlotte. You bozos had 5 overtime periods to work with. You couldn’t just throw 6 more shots on net at some point? Cycling too many pucks. Getting too many pucks deep. You need to get that shit on net so Alex Lyon can get himself that Wilt Chamberlain photo. Pretty selfish if you ask me.

Either way. The Phantoms are now one win away from the Eastern Conference Final. A lot of current/future Flyers playing in these playoffs. Alex Lyon, Travis Sanheim, Sam Morin, Phil Myers, Oskar Lindblom, Pascal Laberge, big ass Isaac Ratcliffe, Mikhail Vorobyev. The days of watching Dale Weise, Matt Read, Brandon Manning and Radko Gudas are quickly coming to an end.
