Wake Up With Roger Clemens Throwing A Bat At Mike Piazza

One of the strangest incidents I’ve seen on a baseball field. I was 11 years old when this happened and still can’t figure out what Roger Clemens was doing with that bat. Could you IMAGINE if a guy of Clemens’ fame throwing a shattered bat at a player in todays game? Chris Sale throwing a bat at Aaron Judge or someone? Man, think of the hot takes and tweets that would come from that. The amount of articles explaining why snowflakes wouldn’t let their kids watch baseball anymore would be through the roof. But I digress.

We all know that Clemens and Mike Piazza had some history before this, just a few months earlier, the Mets catcher was beaned in the head by Clemens. Piazza said he thought the head shot was intentional from Clemens, and who knows, maybe it was. So fast forward to the Subway Series in October, Piazza steps into the box, Clemens fires in a pitch that saws Piazza off at the hands. Barrel of the bat hurls toward Rocket. So what does he do? Fields the bat and flings it back at Piazza. Mike’s reaction is the best, kind of a “What the fuck did this guy just do?”

The best part of the video starts at 1:25 when Clemens says to Piazza, “I thought it was the ball.” HEY ROGER, IT’S NOT BASEBALL IN THE BACKYARD WITH A TENNIS BALL WHERE YOU BEAN THEM FOR AN OUT. Even if it was the ball, what the hell are you doing? Idk if Clemens thought this was Piazza getting back at him for the bean ball, but I think its pretty impossible to chose where you can break your bat and where it goes. Clemens really looked like the loser here, bad move on his part, and just an outrageous scene all around. Roger also said he didn’t even know which Piazza was running on the foul ball which again, is a hilariously bad excuse. At that point, he was just a 5-year-old who got caught doing something bad and was pulling out every excuse he had.Spor

MLB did fine Clemens $50,000 for the incident because they thought it was intentional, I mean it’s a lot of dough, but imagine what would have happened if the sharp part of the barrel speared Piazza?

Like I said, just an outrageous scene and an even worse excuse by Rocket, “I thought it was the ball” was laugh out loud bad.
