Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Just Hit A Home Run Off A Goddamn Hotel

Jesus Christ. WHY IS VLAD JR. STILL IN FUCKING DOUBLE-A?! WHY! He’s been 19 years old for a couple of months, and he’s hitting home runs off of goddamn hotels. That wasn’t even his first home run of the night, either. Here’s the first one:

Coming into tonight, Vlad Jr. had been hitting .404 with a 1.088 OPS. He’s 2-for-4 tonight with two homers and 5 RBI for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He leads all Double-A hitters in batting average and is third in OPS. Ben Badler of Baseball America, who took those videos, wrote about Vlad Jr. today and said, “His bat is MLB ready. He’s one of the best teenage hitters I’ve ever seen.”

Guerrero is the best teenage hitter to come along since Bryce Harper batted .270/.340/.477 in 139 games as a 19-year-old rookie in 2012 with 5.2 WAR, per Baseball-Reference.com. Vladdy Jr. has his dad’s hitting mannerisms, with an offensive profile in the mold of superstars like Manny Ramirez and Frank Thomas. He is already a player with the upside to win a batting title or to lead the league in OBP or slugging in some years.

The problem is that, despite the Red Sox and Yankees having the two best records in baseball, the Blue Jays are still somewhat in the race with a 19-16 record, 6.5 games back of first place. For now. If they fall out of it, Toronto could look to trade Josh Donaldson for prospects, as the former MVP is a free agent at the end of the year. Kendrys Morales also blocks Vlad Jr. at the DH spot.

But if he keeps doing shit like this and the Blue Jays aren’t able to stay in the Wild Card picture, then they’ve gotta get some prospects back for Donaldson and get Vlad Jr. up to The Show. I’m not waiting around for September call-ups to watch this kid hit bombs in the bigs. It’s criminal.
