My Goodness Gracious Max Scherzer Did It Again In a BIG Way

As you know, we’ve been tracking every one of Max Scherzer’s starts this year, and woo buddy, he is something else. When I decided to do this I knew he’d be good, I didn’t know he’d be this good. I mean…we’re talking about a back to back Cy Young winning pitcher who has gotten better, it’s crazytown. He proved his dominance once again yesterday with an unreal 6.1 inning, 15 strikeout performance against the Phillies. If this were 1920 and pitchcount wasn’t a thing, he would have mowed down 23 Phillies before the end of the game. Alas, Davey wanted to save his arm, so 15 would have to suffice.

Just so, so nasty.

And nice.

I mean his season is just absurd so far. He hasn’t allowed more than 6 hits in any start. He hasn’t allowed over 2 ER in any start. 8 starts and the most ER he’s allowed is 2! He has 10+ Ks in 5 of those 8 starts as well, with a strikeout to walk ratio at a cool 80:13 in 51.2 innings. Bananas.

And to top it off, despite the Nats blew Scherzer’s lead, they came back and walked it off in the 9th!

All in all, a pretty cool day at Nats Park. The good guys are now 7-3 in their last 10, 2 games out of first. And this is still playing without Daniel Murphy at all this year. After that beginning of the year slump and the sweep from the Mets I said there is nothing to panic about, this team is too good and will put it together, and how beautiful it is to see them do it right now. Now time for a little West Coast swing, could be in first place by the time we get back home.
