My Derby Pick Is In

Now let me start this blog the same way I start every horse racing blog I write. I own horses and you don’t. Therefore just assume I know more about this game than you do. Now the 2nd point I’d like to make is that I don’t bet on favorites at the Derby. I just don’t do it. This plan hasn’t worked very well for me lately since the favorite has won 5 straight. That means 5 straight losses for yours truly. And once again people are saying Justify is a monster and he very well may be. But it doesn’t matter. If you want to bet the chalk I got a nice mutual fund for you to invest in.
Instead I’m going with the 2nd choice this year. His name is Mendelssohn. Now the big knock on Mendelssohn is that he is a UAE horse meaning he is flying across the globe to come to the Derby. No UAE horse has every won this race. It’s a huge ask to be ready after this type of trip. But Mendelssohn has already won in the United States and he has won on every type of surface and distance. More importantly the real reason I love him is two words. Cruising speed. You ever seen somebody run and it looks like they aren’t really trying to go fast but they are pulling away from everybody else? That’s Mendelssohn. He blows people away while he appears to be out for a morning gallop. Just watch this race and prepare to be blown away.
I’ve never seen anybody do that except for American Pharaoh. Oh you know him? That horse that won the Triple Crown. So yeah I’ll take the 5-1 odds and laugh my way to the bank.
