Steve Kerr On Steph Curry: "There Is No Way He Plays In The First Round"

Nor should he even try to come back that quickly. The Warriors are trying to win their third title in four years. They’re not trying to sweep the 7-seed. You don’t get a banner for that unless you’re like the Indianapolis Colts or some shit. The Warriors have been locked into the 2-seed for a while now which they should be more than comfortable with. Right now they’re scheduled to play the Timberwolves but the bottom of the West is such a clusterfuck that matchup wont be finalized until probably the last day of the season. The worst case scenario is pulling Utah, who are 15-3 since the trade deadline and have found one of the best defensive lineups in the League since swapping out Rodney Hood for Jae Crowder.

The Warriors might do themselves a favor to throw this game and get the Jazz a free win to try and get them up by New Orleans and San Antonio. The only other times the Warriors will have a chance to influence the bottom half of the Western playoff bracket are April 7th against the Pelicans and April 10th, the last game of the regular season, at Utah. Would anyone pick Utah to beat Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green? No, they sure wouldn’t. But without Curry, why make it tougher than it needs to be when you could potentially play a young, defenseless Denver team or a tired Timberwolves bunch? Walk through an unproven team and try and buy a few days extra rest for your starters in case Steph needs a few games in the second round before he’s close to 100%.

Golden State should be fine as long as Steph shows up for the Western Conference finals, but between Durant’s injuries last year, Draymond going on a dick kick excursion during the Finals the year prior, and now this, they sure don’t make it easy for themselves no matter how loaded that roster is year after year.
