The Red Sox And Yankees Are Close To An Agreement To Play Two Games In London Next Year, Which Is Just A Completely Horrible Idea

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are nearing an agreement to play a two-game, regular season series in London in June 2019, according to people familiar with the matter.

The series would be played at London Stadium, the main facility for the 2012 Olympics, said the people, who asked not to be named because they weren’t authorized to discuss the matter publicly. Details still need to be ironed out.

Officials for Major League Baseball and the teams didn’t immediately respond to emails seeking comment.

I really liked Rob Manfred prior to yesterday. He’s brought some really good ideas to the game (minus the potential extra inning rule putting a man on second to start innings) and he’s made a very good transition from the dinosaur that was Bud Selig. But now this. There are real life smart people who sat around a board room at MLB HQ and thought taking the best rivalry in baseball and wasting two of the 19 regular season games in fucking London was a good idea. Who the hell cares about baseball over in London? Apologies to the Stoolies over in London, we love you, but there’s nowhere near enough people out in Europe who care about Major League Baseball across the pond for us to do this. People from MLB are saying we need to send our marquee teams out there in order to make a big impact with the first games. Alright fine, send the Astros and Dodgers out there for a rematch of the World Series. Don’t send the Yanks and Sox to fucking Europe when most of the people out there think baseball is cricket.

The Yankees Red Sox rivalry is finally back, according to the Red Sox twitter account at least, and every single one of these 19 games are going to be a dog fight. You really want to take a game away from Yankee Stadium and a game away from Fenway to travel across the Atlantic Ocean in June? Why? Why on Earth is this a thing? I’m totally fine with the Yankees playing the Mariners in Japan sometime in April. I obviously don’t care if the Sox go play a random team in China. But don’t waste two of the 19 action packed rivalry games between the two just so we can “try” to expand the game to another country that doesn’t give a shit in the first place.

According to Joel Sherman both games are going to be Red Sox home games. I cannot think for the life of me why Boston would agree to lose two home games in this rivalry when every game between each other will be very important for the AL East chase. Even if both games are Boston home games I still don’t like it. As a Yankees fan, the satisfaction I get from winning games in Fenway is like no other. It almost feels like two wins, and a win in London won’t feel anywhere near the same. I couldn’t hate this idea any more than I do.
