Floyd Mayweather Says He's Seriously Gonna Do This MMA Thing, Grades His Own Skills

Cocktease Floyd is back at it again with TMZ, entertaining the idea of fighting within the confides of a chain-link fence at some point in the near future. I’m iffy, especially because when you watch the clip you see him go from being dismissal to realizing this is a shot at staying in the limelight instantly, flipping a switch, but there’s still some interesting tidbits. Let’s go down the line of questioning (from this moron TMZ guy)…

“You training with Tyron [Woodley] yet?”
“I’ma start soon. We been texting back and forth, we talked a couple times. So we gonna start working out real, real soon.”

A bit tough that both the paparazzi and Floyd are calling Tyron “Tyrone”, something the Welterweight Champion has expressed disapproval of MANY times in the past. Kinda makes me think he and Mayweather aren’t as close as they claim to be!

“Do you expect to have to do any wrestling?”
“I mean it doesn’t matter. You know, I can wrestle. You know, my wrestling game is not that bad. On a scale from 1 to 10 I’ll say it’s probably a 7, and I think we can take it up to like a 9 if possible. Of course my hand game on a scale from 1 to 10 is 100. And the kicking game, on a scale from 1 to 10 is probably a 4. So we have to tweak a few things then, take things to that next level. You know I can’t overlook or knock any MMA guy. Tyron is unbelievable. Unbelievable fighter, tough competitor. Conor McGregor, he’s a tough competitor, helluva fighter. There’s a lot of tough, rugged guys out there in MMA and I can’t overlook or disrespect those guys.”

Here’s the meat and potatoes of the video. Floyd grades his own MMA skills. Before we talk about that, let me just say “Do you expect to have to do any wrestling?” is possibly the dumbest question I could imagine asking about a boxer’s mixed martial arts debut. My own mother, who knows next to nothing about sports let alone combat sports, wouldn’t even ask that. But as for his grades – Wrestling: 7/10, Kicking 4/10 – I’ll say this…

Not even in the ballpark. “Kicking” is likely a 2/10 at best, and wrestling the same. There’s no way that 41 year old Floyd Mayweather is better at wrestling than he is kickboxing, it’s fundamentally impossible. Wrestling is a skill that takes YEARS and YEARS of work to even be decent in at the UFC level. It’s not as simple as “learn to defend a takedown”. Floyd simply cannot be good at wrestling and will not be good at wrestling for a long time, even if he started training a year ago. Him rating his hands at 100/10 is probably a fair estimate though.

“Are you gonna go straight for McGregor?”
“I was thinking…I mean, me, myself, I really don’t know. We can’t say. That’s why I pause because I can’t really say, you know. I have to talk with my team, speak with my father, and then see how it’s gonna play out.”

Obviously he’s going straight for McGregor.

How much money would it take for you to get into the octagon?
“Well, you know, it’s all about presenting the right numbers. And, of course, they gonna present the right numbers [smiles]. And we gonna make it happen.”

…and there’s the magic question. How much money would it take? I don’t know the answer, but I don’t think it’s an unrealistic number. Seriously.

Getting demolished in the cage wouldn’t hinder Mayweather’s legacy in the slightest, and if they can work out a one-for-one deal with one fight in the UFC (with McGregor) and one more in the squared circle, I honestly think it’s worth it and could happen. Who doesn’t wanna see this piece of shit eat some headkicks to the face before getting the life choked out of him? Then we could do the boxing thing again to inflate his ego some more, and I don’t really care about that, but I’m officially to the point of being “iffy” about this happening in a cage. The last time I blogged a Mayweather MMA cocktease, I was adamantly in denial that this would ever happen in a billion years, so that’s clearly a ton of line moving there. I’d LOVE to see it, but to be fair, I just want to see Conor fight ANYONE in the octagon. He could schedule a fight with my grandmother and I’d be happy about it.
