Richard Sherman Admitted That Part Of The Reason He Signed With The 49ers Is Because He Is "Vengeful" And Wants To Face The Seahawks Twice A Year

MMQB- Now about the Seahawks’ part of things. While Seattle reconstructs its franchise, its heart-and-soul guy—its Ortiz, its LeBron—flies south. Lots of familiar things in the Bay Area for Sherman. That’s where he went to college, at Stanford. He fancies himself a Renaissance man full of interests outside of sports, and so the imagination of Silicon Valley interests him. He’s a California guy. But there’s something else about playing for the Niners. “We had something no other team could offer,” Lynch said. What? “The ability to play Seattle twice a year,” Lynch said.

When that was relayed to Sherman, he paused for a second. Sherman said: “I’m vengeful in that way.” That’s what it sounded like. But I wanted to make sure. I asked him to repeat that. “Vengeful,” Sherman said. “I love the fan base to death, and I loved playing there. It was such a great opportunity. I helped the organization get to a great place and stay there. But now it’s like I abandoned them. People are out there burning my jersey. Come on. I’m not the one who let me go. They let me go. I didn’t abandon anybody.”

I know some people love Richard Sherman while others hate him. But I don’t care which camp you are in, you are a Grade A asshole if you can’t appreciate that quote. Vengeance is what makes the world goes round. It’s what gets people out of bed in the morning, in the gym after that, and grinding all day/night at the office. It doesn’t matter if it was a breakup, a firing, or just some off-hand insult. There is no motivator better than some vengeance. Tom Brady went from 6th round pick to 5 time Super Bowl champion thanks to vengeance. Ray Finkle doesn’t set the most diabolical plan ever if it’s not for revenge. The baptism scene from The Godfather and the end of the criminally underrated Lucky Number Slevin are great because they are vengeance orgasms. That type of fire is probably why Bill Belichick loves bringing veterans that got cut from other AFC East teams or AFC rivals. And every team should ask themselves if they are ready for a player to sign with its biggest rival simply because of vengeance. Granted there is nooooo chance Sherman goes to the Niners if C.J. Beathard is their starter and Jimmy G is still looking sexy as fuck in New England. But once a QB was in place and Sherman knew he could shove his spite right in the Seahawks eyes twice a year, going to the Niners was a no-brainer.

Also not for nothing, but I did call Sherman signing with the 49ers last week right after his mom broke the story that he was leaving the Seahawks.
