Richard Sherman Stays Out West, Signs 3-Year Deal With The 49ers

3 years, $39 million for a 30-year old CB coming off a brutal achilles injury. Will Sherman be the same type of player as he was pre-injury? In my professional medical opinion – I have absolutely no clue whatsoever. But I love the gamble by San Francisco. Coming into the day they had the fifth most cap space in the league and after this signing they’ll slide down to having the eighth most cap space. Really ever since John Lynch got in there they’ve become one of the more interesting teams to watch rebuild after they traded with the Bears during the Draft and then poached Jimmy G at the trade deadline just to have the first crack at signing him long term. I have absolutely no clue if it will work or what else Lynch has coming down the pipeline but one thing I do know is that I’m very here for the 49ers-Seahawks rivalry getting another life.

A few years ago it looked like these two teams might go on a Patriots-Colts 2000s type run of meeting every year in the Championship round before both of their windows shut. Everyone on the 49ers retired while everyone on the Seahawks defense understandably chased checks. Now, Sherman going to the Bay immediately reignites that rivalry. Throw in the Rams being still the most talented team in the division and those Fox 4:15 games just got a whole helluva lot more enticing. And we still have the Draft and the remainder of Free Agency to go. Sherman may never be the same impact player he was during his prime, but you know damn well he thinks he’s still that dude. There’s going to be some elite shit talking going on that whole week leading up to that first matchup, and really isn’t that what any of us care about?

But for now, Sherm has a busy night of unblocking 49ers fans (and players?) ahead of him.
