EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – A driver for a Texas private security company was fired Wednesday after an inmate escaped while the driver slept at the Casino Queen hotel in East St. Louis, Illinois. According to our news partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the driver was transporting two men from Oklahoma to Texas but drove several hundred miles out of the way to visit Illinois. The driver and the two inmates checked into the hotel around 10 p.m. Sunday. The driver woke up less than an hour later to find the inmate gone. It’s still unclear why the driver, Lamont Henderson, traveled all the way to East St. Louis. He told police he was scheduled to meet a supervisor in the area on Monday, but authorities are still investigating those claims. A spokesperson for the East St. Louis Police Department said officers are searching for the missing inmate, identified as 33-year-old Brian Jordan.

Whoops! That moment when you’re a prison guard transporting inmates but the slot machines are calling your name. I’m not a gambler but I’ve been told that it’s something a lot of people love to do. Word on the street is that some people might even be addicted to it. I’d say the driver in the story falls into that category. You know the scene in A Goofy Movie when Max is driving and he has a choice to go to Idaho or California and he picks California? That’s how I picture this going down. Go to the prison of the casino? He picked casino.

Here’s a new law that should be put into place: If you’re a prison inmate, and you escape while a guard does something illegal/not by the book, you’re free. Boom. Congratulations on your newfound freedom. It’s only fair. Or even better, the inmate goes free and the guard gets swapped in to do their prison time. Yep that;s it. I really like that  That would surely get rid of situations like this one. If the guard is thinking in the back of his head, “Shit. If I do something wrong here that means I’m gonna have to do hard time” then he doesn’t stop at the casino. Guaranteed. No chance. Will it happen? No because people are babies. I’m just an idea guy.
