Phil Mickelson Beats Justin Thomas In A Playoff And Wins For The First Time Since 2013
Before we get to Phil’s win, after Justin Thomas made eagle on 18 I wrote a “Justin Thomas Wins For The Second Week In A Row” blog. I didn’t do it to jinx him. I did it cause it really seemed like everything was breaking JT’s way and of course he was gonna end up winning. The eagle on 18 seemed like the sealer. He didn’t win.
I left the blog in here anyway. This is what it said
WELP. Hey remember last week when a bunch of people (myself, Riggs, Frankie and our fearless leader Dave Portnoy included) ripped Justin Thomas for throwing a fan out for rooting against him? Well guess what? Justin Thomas doesn’t give a fuck. Not a single one. He fought through all that noise, outlasted the great Phil Mickelson in a playoff and raised another trophy just a week later. Thomas turned in Saturday and Sunday rounds of 62 and 64 respectively to win for the second week in a row. He was tied for 38th at the midway point of the tournament and ended up winning the damn thing.

I mean that walk-off eagle on 18 was fucking heroic. I stand by every bit of my Justin Thomas criticism from last week. He’s still a whiny baby for getting upset that a fan was rooting against him. He shouldn’t have done it cause it’s #BadForGolf and makes him look like shit but you can’t deny how awesome that shot was. That was incredible. The dude has balls of steel. He took all the backlash and criticism from last week and shoved it allllllllllllllllll the way up our asses. I doubt he cares one iota about the things people said as long as he keeps winning.
Oh and the last person to win back-to-back tournaments on the PGA Tour?

I’ve never rooted for Phil Mickelson harder in my life. I was #TeamPhil during the playoff. Not only did I want him to beat Justin Thomas but it was time for Lefty to get back in the winners circle. It’d been far too long. It’s hard to believe but he hadn’t won since the 2013 British Open but here we are.

Mickelson’s birdie at 16 to put him in a tie for the lead was huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge
He’d then go on to par 17 and 18 to go into a playoff with JT. Which he won on the first hole after Thomas bogeyed. How about this camera guy almost “accidentally” stepping on Thomas’ ball?
That guy is for sure #TeamPhil and might even listen to Fore Play. Anyway. Congrats to Phil. Lefty winning is #GoodForGolf and #GoodForAnyoneWhoThinksJustinThomasIsABigCryBaby.
By the way, I need a Phil/Tiger Sunday showdown at the Masters like I need air to breathe. The golf gods need to make that happen.
