Kentucky Releases Statement About Kevin Knox's Eligibility

Knox-2-800x534

I’ve been updating this story as it goes, especially with the current players and whether or not they’ll be playing. We got answers yesterday from Duke and Wendell Carter, who will be playing as well as the opposite for San Diego State’s Malik Pope and Texas’ Eric Davis Jr. Today we have an answer about Kevin Knox, who had his name on the Christian Dawkins expense report involving a meal possibly being paid for.

Now, before people start screaming about Calipari and everything like that – this isn’t a Calipari decision. This is a decision from the compliance department, which includes Sandy Bell. What seems to be going on here is that Kentucky is just following the path of Duke, especially since Kevin Knox’s dad already came out and dismissed any allegations against him or his son.

Another important thing to remember here is it doesn’t say that Knox took a meal with Dawkins. It alleges that a family member had a meal with Dawkins, which was paid for. As I’ve talked about in previous blogs too, it could be hard to prove anything happened with these dinners. Dawkins isn’t the most reliable source and we don’t have any receipts. It’s going to take receipts and more evidence than an expense report for any of these guys to really be charged with anything.

This is big for Kentucky though, which is coming off two quality wins vs Alabama and at Arkansas. They are currently fighting for a top-5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and a win over Missouri today helps keep that alive. Knox has started to become a consistent scorer for Kentucky over the last couple of games and is really starting to figure out the offense – most notably running off curl and flex screens.

I’ll continue to update as we know what’s going on, but for the current players we know that:

Eric Davis Jr (Texas) – Sitting out to internal investigation

Malik Pope (San Diego State) – Sitting out to internal investigation

Wendell Carter (Duke) – Playing

Miles Bridges (Michigan State) – Playing

Kevin Knox (Kentucky) – Playing

Chime Metu (USC) – Playing, this was put out right after I hit publish:
