Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is serving a 25-day jail sentence after pleading guilty on Dec. 13 to a probation violation he committed this summer.

Caldwell-Pope failed to comply with a Michigan court’s drug and alcohol screening order — part of a 12-month probation — according to the prosecutor’s office in Auburn Hills, Mich., where the Lakers player was stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence on March 29.

The 24-year-old is serving his sentence in the Seal Beach Police Department Detention Center and, under a work-release program, is being allowed to leave the facility for games and practices, according to court and jail officials and court documents.

Court records show Caldwell-Pope must wear a GPS monitor outside the detention facility. When he returns from games or practices, he must submit to a breath test.

According to court documents, should Caldwell-Pope violate any of the terms of the agreement, he will be sentenced to 93 days in Oakland County Jail.

Well, this is….something new. Lakers shooting guard KCP will be serving out his 25 day jail sentence for violating his DUI probation earlier this month WHILE ALSO playing for the Lakers. He can’t travel out of state, but he can practice and play when the team is in California. Now the title of this blog is a bit misleading because he’s not necessarily going to jail per say. Instead, he’ll be avoiding county jail entirely and spending the 25 days in a fancy detention center. What’s that fancy detention center entail? Well, it’s probably better than what you or I have in our current living situations. It’s got comfy beds, flat-screen TVs, computers, and most importantly peace and quiet.

And here’s the dorm room style LA detention centers.

So no, KCP isn’t actually going to jail in between playing for the Lakers. He’s paying $100 a day to stay in this, which is a no brainer move for a guy making $18 million this year. It’s basically a way to get away from your wife for a month. Just a lot of me time while also still playing in the NBA. Doesn’t really sound that bad to me.
