Of Course The Implosion Of The Silverdome Failed

The initial series of explosions at the Pontiac Silverdome began on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, it failed. The first explosions took place at 8:30 a.m. – you can watch it above. An official on the scene told Local 4 that the demolition didn’t go according to plan.

Another implosion will be scheduled at a later date.

The blast was meant break the metal beams that support the upper ring of the stadium; a 20-foot steel band that supported the equipment that was used to keep the roof inflated. Each vertical beam surrounding the Silverdome will house a small charge, which upon detonation; will cause the beams to break and the steel ring to fall to the ground.

Live look at Detroit fans realizing their city fucked up yet again.

God DAMMIT Detroit. Can’t you guys do anything right? Destroying old, abandoned buildings should be second nature for Motown. Load up the spot with explosives, make sure the frambulances are ready in case anything goes wrong, and hit the big red button that says EXPLODE. Instead we chalk this up as another epic Detroit loss. Not sure if it will cause another Lion to retire prematurely, but I could see a scenario where Matthew Stafford decides to call it quits on secondhand embarrassment alone.

Since I am Barstool’s resident stadium implosion expert (Read: I blogged about the Georgia Dome implosion a few weeks ago) if Detroit wants to spinzone all of this, they can say they fucked up the implosion just to become the biggest implosion fail of 2017.

Now lets remember the Silverdome during it’s better days.
