Godzilla Is Back! Hideki Matsui Expects To Be Involved in Recruiting Shohei Otani To The Bronx

MLB.com

The 43-year-old retired Yankee is still heavily involved in baseball, working as a special advisor to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. Matsui’s current role involves helping players in the Minor Leagues get prepared for the Majors, and he’s seen many unique talents over the course of his career. Even so, Matsui admits Ohtani possesses skills that are both new to him and American baseball.

“If that’s something he wants to do and the team wants it, then why not? If he’s allowed to come here and the Yankees are interested, then I expect to be involved in that process as maybe trying to convince him or recruit him to the Yankees,” Matsui said through a translator.

LETS GO! This is exactly what I needed to hear about the Shohei Otani sweepstakes. Lets send everyone we have over there to get this guy. I mean everyone. Send Tanaka’s translator, send the bat boys, send everyone to convince this guy. But what better guy to send than Godzilla himself, Hideki Matsui. If there is ever a guy who’s going to convince you New York is the place for a guy coming overseas from Japan it’s him. Matsui was a LEGEND in Japan putting up multiple 40+ homer seasons for the Yomiuri Giants and was a big deal when he decided to head over to the United States. He’s living prove if you do well in New York the media and fans will adore you and turn you into a hero. Every time he returns to Yankee Stadium he receives the second loudest cheers next to only Derek Jeter. It’s true. During his time as a Yankee he won over the fans in such a way with his clutch hits time after time that he we will always be in debt to him. If Shohei Otani needs any convincing about where to play, Hideki Matsui is the man for the job.

I’d probably stay away from the giant porn collection if I were Hideki. There’s more things to do with your money in NYC than build up a porn collection.

Clem’s Editor’s Note: If I rooted for a Major League team that actually believed in spending money for free agents, I’d be terrified of Matsui being a part of the Yankees recruiting team. That dude seemed to come through every fucking time on the diamond and there is no reason to believe that juju shouldn’t somehow carry over to recruiting as well.
