Triple H Confirmed Today That The NXT WarGames Cage Will Not Have A Roof, Outraging Many Fans

This Saturday night, WWE will be holding the first WarGames match in almost twenty years. It’s a fan favorite/cult classic type deal, largely due to the spectacle of a brutal and bloody match being held inside two connected rings with a cage surrounding them.

WarGames also had really unique stipulations involving teams getting the upper hand in numbers based on timed-periods, and there were no pinfalls. The only way to win was to get a member of the opposing team to submit or surrender. Almost everything about that has changed for Saturday’s installment, and many fans are not happy about this.

There will now be no roof, pinfalls can end the match, when periods come to an end, the remaining members of one team will enter, not one-by-one, and it’s three against three against three (which has been done before to little success). I’m smart enough to understand there’s a lot of great talent involved in this match, there’s new high-flying opportunities with no roof attached to the cage, and I should really just reserve all judgement until the match is over…but this ain’t WarGames.

I don’t know why everything had to change. The concept has been proven to be executed perfectly time and time again, so why make this so different? Is it because attention spans in 2017 are so horrible that Hunter didn’t want to explain the somewhat complex rules to a new audience? I’m sure the match will be awesome and I’ll eat my words, but I definitely don’t have the same excitement I did a month ago when I thought WarGames was back.

My full preview for this card as well as my Survivor Series preview will be uploaded tomorrow.
