This Obituary Is An All-Time Obituary For An All-Time Guy In Price Davis

Tyler Paper- Price Mackenzie Davis, of McKinney, formerly of Tyler, made his last inappropriate and probably sarcastic comment on October 25th.

Price loved his family, fine cigars, Reese’s Cups, “Two & a Half Men,” beautiful women, and Macallan 12 … and not necessarily in that order. He hated fettucine alfredo and hypocrites. But he loved to tell stories, and you could be sure 75 percent of every story was true.

There will be no viewing since his family refuses to honor his request to have him standing in the corner of the room with a glass of scotch in his hand and a cigar in his mouth so that he would appear natural to visitors.

Price was killed when he rushed into a burning pet store to save a litter of purring, adorable kittens. Or maybe not. We all know how he liked to tell stories.

These are just a few excerpts from this terrific obit for the late, great Texan, Price Davis. Two things are certain–this guy was awesome, and the guy who wrote his obituary is awesome. Obituaries are always so sad and boring. “He loved daffodils… he enjoyed mowing the lawn… his family is concerned that the life insurance policy won’t cover tuition costs for the 16 children.” Ugh. Thank God I didn’t know that guy, right? What a bore.

But Price Davis? Miss him already. I never met him but I feel like I know him. The image of Price’s body standing propped in the corner of a church, with a cigar in his mouth and a glass of scotch in his hand so that he would “appear natural to visitors” made me giggle, cry, and snack. The cycle of grief.

Price and I would have been good pals, make no mistake. And that’s the point, right? I want my obituary to make people wish they’d known me before I was shot by a jealous ex-girlfriend, suffocated in the throes of passion by an over-zealous dominatrix, or crushed beneath a shoddy Habitat for Humanity project that I was helping to build because I turned out to be a good guy after all. Honestly, all three of those outcomes seem equally likely right now.
