DES MOINES, IowaA Johnston father of two young daughters is joining with gun-rights advocates in seeking a change to an Iowa law that makes it illegal for children young than 14 to fire handguns. Nathan Gibson said he was inspired to change the law after being told at a shooting range last weekend that his 8-year-old daughter, Natalie, wasn’t old enough to shoot her handgun. Natalie and her 10-year-old sister, Meredith, have been joining their father at shooting ranges since age 5. “Some girls love playing basketball and volleyball and cheerleading, and she does those things, but she has a passion for this,” said Nathan Gibson. “You can shoot a gun and it’s fun practicing and aiming at it. It’s fun,” said Natalie.

Iowa doing big things again.  Leading the charge on important issues in society.  This time it’s trying to get little kids the right to fire handguns because if there’s one thing wrong with this country it’s that there’s not enough kids shooting guns.  I don’t know much about guns but I’m gonna go with my gut and say this isn’t a great idea.  Just a hunch I have.  Nothing more.  Something about putting a lethal weapon in the hand of an 8 year old seems a little crazy to me.  Feels like the potential for something to go wrong sky rockets when a human being whose life revolves around cereal and cartoons gets to handle a loaded weapon.  But again, I don’t know shit about guns.  Maybe this is a great idea and I just don’t see it.  I’m open to that.  I’d also like to point out that I’m almost as scared of guns as I am of planes so I might not be the best person to comment on this.  When I’m around a gun I act how I think Kim Kardashian would act around holy water.  Hesitant to get near it for fear that it will instantly kill me.  What were you doing when you were 14?  I was masturbating like a mad man and getting my driving permit.  Ahhh the good ol’ days.  Now we’re pushing for pre-teens to be strapped.  Anyway I’m gonna stop writing this blog before a full fledged 2nd amendment riot breaks out in our little corner of the internet and somebody gets hurt.
