Netflix Is Buying Ads That Turn Entire Websites Upside Down To Promote Its New Shows

Listen, I understand that ads are a necessary evil. I also understand that companies need to find creative ways to catch peoples’ attention in order to be effective. It’s typically done through branded content, or product placement, which I’m fine with. If a company wants to spend money to slide into my subconscious DM’s go for it. I’d actually prefer not to know when I’m being influenced by advertisers. Makes me feel like I’m smarter than the company. But turning an entire website upside down is flat out disrespectful. Especially without warning. I was so confused when I logged in I turned my laptop upside down.

Laugh it up. You’d do the exact same thing if you thought you accidentally logged into the Russian dark web. It’s shocking how similar the English language looks to Russian when turned upside down.

Once I found the button at the top of the screen asking me to exit the upside down I realized that it was Netflix pulling a jokes on you but the point remains- they were out of bounds. That and don’t go on the dark web or you’ll be paranoid. I get that they’re feeling themselves. I would be too if I raised $1.5 billion for new content, but they’re getting out of control. People love Stranger Things but someone needs to reel them back in. Less is more, Netflix. Less is more.
