Steph Curry Consoling Devin Harris' Nephew Before A Game Is The Epitome Of Class

Source - In a display of pure class, Stephen Curry took a moment to console Devin Harris’ 9-year-old nephew, Brayden, just days after his father’s death prior to the Warriors-Mavericks game at American Airlines Center Monday night.

Harris’ brother, Bruce, died in a car crash last Thursday.

Harris didn’t play Monday and has not played since his brother’s death. He has been granted a leave of absence by the Mavericks.

“It’s obviously sometimes hard to find the right words to say in that situation because it’s such a tough blow to the family,” said Curry, who can be seen hugging Brayden in the video. “And for him at that age, I can’t imagine what he’s going through, but the best thing I could say is to lean on his family to give him that strength to get through this tough time.

“Nobody can tell him how to feel to allow himself to get through this the best that he can, but with his family at his side and leaning on them for strength and for love, hopefully they’ll be there for him. That’s the best I can tell.”

This is what being a professional athlete is all about. It’s about creating positive change. It can be as big as bringing business to a depressed city or as small as helping a teammate’s nephew who’s going through a tough time. It’s good to see Steph still recognizes that. It would’ve been easy for him to slap high five and run out of the tunnel but he didn’t. He stood there and waited. Which I’m sure meant the world to the kid. It has to be emotionally confusing meeting your hero at your lowest point but hopefully it helped to temporarily ease the pain.

The fact that Steph didn’t know he was being filmed makes the story even more heartwarming. John Wooden said, “The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.”  So say what you want about Steph’s playing style or his attitude but don’t say he doesn’t have character. Thoughts and prayers to the Harris family. Good on you, Steph.

PS: In case you missed it, the Warriors put on a show last night.
