Government Of Dubai Announces The Addition Of Flying Hoverbike Cops With An Absolutely Electric Trailer

Source - Tech-savvy Dubai police have unveiled a hoverbike capable of flying five metres (16 feet) above the ground.The high-tech crime-fighting vehicle was shown off to onlookers at a recent tech convention, alongside a prototype robotic car.

When piloted, the hoverbike can fly for up to 25 minutes, hit speeds of up to 70 kph (43mph) and carry up to 300kg (47 stone) of weight. Without a police officer aboard, it can hit six meters (16 feet) in height. The vehicle was co-developed with Russian drone manufacturer Hoversurf.

I initially thought this was a movie trailer.  It’s essentially a full blown, Bad-Boy-esque, feature film minus the thots. From a production standpoint it’s incredibly well done- the story flows, there’s rising music throughout that raises tension, and a slow-mo ending that fades into a credit screen that pops. If it were a movie I’d keep watching. But apparently it’s not. It’s the way Dubai lets people know of policy change. Which is WILD. Can you imaging if the NYPD did this every time they released a  new line of Segways in Penn Station?

They’d get roasted.

Whether or not the technology is successfully implemented remains to be seen. It seems like hoverbikes are one of those movie fantasies that would never work in real life. At least not in Dubai. A million degrees and sandy aren’t exactly ideal flying conditions. Imagine straddling an engine in one-hundred degree heat?  It would leave some pretty nasty burns. Not that you’d be able to see them with the sand blasting in your face. Which would make it nearly impossible to do your job. Especially when you’re sixteen feet up surrounded by four spinning blades. And god forbid you fall off you get chopped up before you even hit the ground. The more I type the more it sounds like a nightmare. Very cool, but not very practical.

They should definitely still try it though. I’d love to see cops riding around on speeder bikes. Let them work out the kinks then send them to the US.
