SO CLOSE. The United States team was SO close to clinching the Presidents Cup on a Saturday. Something that had never been done before. After dominating the Saturday morning foursomes they needed to sweep the afternoon four ball matches. I can’t describe how awesome that would’ve been had it happened. It would’ve been a big ol red, white and blue bow on top of an event that has been a bloodbath since the first ball was teed up on Thursday. It looked more and more like it was going to happen as the Americans won two of the four ball matches within two minutes of each other. Then Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka scored a full point against Marc Leishman and Branden Grace.

So it was up to Fore Play alumni Kevin Chappell and Charley Hoffman to clinch the Presidents Cup a full day early. As of 4:55pm eastern time it looked like it was going to happen

But Anirban Lahiri and Si Woo Kim pushed it to them being up 1 on the 17th hole

That’s when Charley Hoffman did this on #17 and it looked like there was a very real chance the US squad was gonna clinch a day early. It looked like destiny

A++++++++ celly from our boys Chappell and Hoffman. We then found out that Lahiri is NAILS, sank this putt to halve the hole and pushed the Presidents Cup to Sunday

So the US team needs a full point on Sunday to clinch. They will do that and they will celebrate at Liberty National. There’s zero chance it doesn’t happen. Jinxes aren’t real. This thing has been a rout from beginning to its eventual end tomorrow.

A few highlights from the day

Justin Thomas continued to do 2017 Justin Thomas things while rocking a FIRE hat

Phil took a selfie with a bunch of red-blooded Americans

This isn’t a highlight. More of a very lowlight. Tiger got punked by a rules official during a bullshit rules dispute involving Jordan Spieth. How the hell did we get here? How the hell did we to the point where Tiger is getting punked by officials? I’m still trying track down the man’s name. I will get back to you and we will riot outside his house

On top of all the awesome things that happened, there were some equally awesome quotes

First one came from Justin Thomas talking about his playing partner Daniel Berger

The second one came from Daniel Berger himself

All things considered that may be the greatest 16 second in the history of sports. Daniel Berger doesn’t give a FUCK. And anyone who says that wasn’t #classy can go fuck themselves. That’s exactly the type of attitude I want from my athletes. Beat your opponent and then piss on his ashes. I’m sick of seeing “All class” and “Such class” when athletes says “the right thing” I wanna know how they actually feel and Berger let us know. A+ interview.

See ya tomorrow
