Jaromir Jagr Is Playing In The Czech Republic This Weekend. Time To Panic

Florida Panthers v Vancouver Canucks

Edmonton Journal – Jaromir Jagr is expected to skate for Kladno of the second-tier Czech league (so-called first league, as compared to Extraleague) this weekend. The team will play HC Zubr P?erov.

Pavel Patera, a former Jagr linemate in their younger years, will coach him. Jagr has been practicing with the team, Patera said, but nothing can compare to game situations. Jagr apparently said he would rather not skate on either of the two first lines, but Patera said he’s got another thing coming: he’s starting with the first line.

God dammit all straight to hell. About a month ago some reports came out that the Flames were close to signing Jagr. That was August 23. Since that time, the Flames have re-signed Sam Bennett and now Jaromir Jagr is going to be playing with HC Kladno, the team that he owns, in the Czech Republic this weekend. So yeah, you do the math.

The last thing we’ve heard about Jagr’s future was this tweet.

The fact that this announcement is going to be coming the day after the NHL season starts up combined with the fact that Jagr is now playing in the Czech league this weekend seems like things with the NHL aren’t exactly going so well. If there was an NHL contract on the table, he probably wouldn’t risk getting injured playing for Kladno right before the season starts. So I’m guessing what this announcement is going to be is that Jagr is going to at least start the season playing for Kladno, he’ll train for the Olympics in February, and then keep an open door to any NHL team that wants to pick him up for the playoff push after the Olympics. Which I guess isn’t the worst case imaginable. The Olympics need a star to market around without any NHL players taking the trip to South Korea. Jagr would easily be the biggest name there. Only thing that worries me is I don’t feel overly comfortable with Jaromir Jagr being that close in proximity to Kim Jong-un. You never know what that psychopath is going to do and if he even thinks about pulling any stunts while Jags is in Pyeongchang, I’ll head to North Korea and kill him myself.

On the bright side, I’m usually wrong about absolutely everything so there’s still a good chance that I’m writing a “The Jaromir Jagr Era Has Officially Resumed” blog on October 5th. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
