No Team Has Worse Luck At A Position Than Maryland Does At Quarterback

AAA - Maryland football head coach D.J. Durkin announced Tuesday that quarterback Kasim Hill will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.

Hill, a true freshman and blue-chip recruit, was crunched into in Maryland’s loss to Central Florida on Saturday. Despite walking off the field, his injury was serious.

He will likely be replaced by Max Bortenschlager. North Carolina transfer Caleb Henderson was injured, but could enter the fold if healthy. He’s currently slated to be Bortenschlager’s backup on Saturday.

The Maryland native replaced Tyrrell Pigrome, who tore his ACL at Texas, helping the Terps see out their upset of the Longhorns. He finished the season 18-for-21 for 230 yards and two touchdowns through the air while rushing 12 times for 60 yards and a score.

With two quarterbacks lost to torn ACLs, the Terps will be struggling to create offense as they hit the meat of their Big Ten schedule.

So freaking brutal it’s unreal. First Tyrrell Pigrome went down in the opener against Texas after an absolutely electrifying performance.

So in came blue chip freshman Kasim Hill. I was excited to see Hill, the 4 star kid from Maryland. And he was awesome, finishing the Texas game and then winning the next. And thennnnn, boom. Hurt on Saturday, and now done for the year.

Our 3rd stringer was supposed to be Caleb Henderson, the transfer from UNC, but he got hurt during the offseason and hasn’t seen a snap this season. Classic Caleb.

So enter 4th stringer Max Bortenschlager. Dope ass name. I fully trust Walt Bell to scheme around Max’s strengths and if there is one OC who can overcome this adversity, it’s definitely Walt.

It’s just such bad luck for Maryland QBs. Not sure there is a more cursed position in all of sports. Alex Kirshner compiled the last few years of QB luck at Maryland, and it ain’t pretty:

It especially sucks this season because the Terps have been so fun to watch. They are young and hungry and only getting better. Durkin and his staff are bringing in Top 25 recruiting classes, and it’s been awesome watching these kids develop. Hopefully Max Bortenschlager can keep the offense in rhythm, but it’s so bumming about Piggy and Hill.
